Elance.com: Say Hello to Your Overseas Booking Agent

October 18th, 2007 · Posted by Jeff · 3 Comments

Having trouble figuring out where the best venues to play at in your state are?

Tired of spending all your time trying to find contact information for booking agents, studios, managers, production companies, promoters, and owners?

Want to make a badass website for you or your band but don’t know what the hell html or flash is?

Don’t waste your valuable practice time with these annoying and time-consuming medial tasks when you could be playing your damn guitar, expanding your musical abilities, and unlocking your guitar potential!

It’s time to Outsource to some guy/girl in India who would be more than happy to do these things for you!

I know this sounds bizarre and is something that most musicians wouldn’t even think about, but you should definitely take advantage of this new idea right away.

You may be wondering what a service provider from Elance.com can do for you. Well the possibilities are really endless but here are a few things that I have had done for me for cheap:

-Web Site Design

-Contact Generation (For $50 and no personal time wasted this is what I got: 358 Texas Music contacts including: 11 Digital Music Distribution, 25 Music Retailers, 72 Radio Stations. 12 Music Press, 2 Conferences/Showcases, 24 Tap/CD/Disc Manufacturers, 38 Music Studios, 13 Booking Agents, 8 Managers, 29 Music Attorneys, 2 PR Firms, 8 Producers, 3 Promoters, 3 Publicists, and 108 Record Labels. In addition I was provided an additional 2159 Record Label contacts across the United states.)

-Hire a Virtual Assistant to add targeted friends on MySpace (Increasing fan base and exposure for $2 an hour without spamming)

-Band Logo and T-Shirt Design

These are just a sample of what I have used Elance.com for. If you can think of something that you want done but don’t have the expertise, don’t want to waste your time doing, or just want to experiment with, Elance.com has a provider for it. Just think of it as the Ebay for services. You post a project you want to have done, and providers will bid on it. You then can select whichever provider you want. You could base your selection on price, feedback reviews, experience, and/or quality. Elance is a goldmine.

Read this hilarious article about Outsourcing written by Esquire editor, A.J Jacobs to get a better understanding of how it all works. : http://www.smartmoney.com/esquire/index.cfm?Story=20050909-outsource

So quit wasting your time on tasks that you can get someone else to do better anyways, and get back to practicing!

Thank you, Come Again.

I would like to start out with possibly first building my friends on myspace. That site is http://www.myspace.com/tammyharrisrootsoul. I would like to know about the contact generation. Does that mean you provide basically a phone book of these people? That’s my impression. Are they specific to a certain genre or area of expertise?

    Thanks,
    Tammy

Hey Tammy. You can start wherever you want. What you do is just post your project and work out as many details and specifics as possible. Say you want to first work on adding women over 25 to your friend network. Just say in your proposal what target market you are looking to add, if any, and these virtual assistants will do so. It is easy to find your target on sites like Myspace with the search feature, and the assistants are very fast. After you post your project, you want to invite bidders, and for adding friends, you would want to invite providers that are experiences in administrative work, such as list-building or lead generation. Invite as many as you want and then choose the bidder that you desire. You basically can do this for friends on myspace, gettin a list of the music venues and contact numbers in Illinois, or even finding contact info for independent label executives. The sky is the limit. Ask and you shall receive! Hope that that helps.
