Hi to everybody.
First I want to apologize for my English ,some of you will laugh to death.
I am a guitar player from Belgrade, Serbia. I started with music when I was age of 6 and in that time I had played an accordion ( it’s a national instrument in my country anyway). I had a private teacher and until the age of 13 I finished some schools of music. In that time I discovered and fell in love with guitar and have spent years learning how to play and how to express myself.
I had a lot of influences by rock players at the beginning of my guitar playing and when I’ve discovered John McLaughlin and Allan Holdsworth , my guitar world were become a mystery place where I need to find out a lot of things. The first I need is to study music theory; whole new cosmos of paths and possibilities and I think its impossible to go up without that.
A lot of players are satisfied to play well using a blues or pentatonic scales and practice a bunch of patterns and licks. I don’t mind that it’s ok if you are satisfied with that ,but if you want to express yourself on higher level of musicality you need to do more for music and yourself. Jazz theory books are necessary even you don’t have intention to play jazz ever . You will play better anything if you spent some time in studying harmony and scales. I know it’s the longer and harder way but I think you can’t reach anything without that . Start with some general jazz theory books and if you find that interesting and useful, go on.
I’ve been recorded a CD this year , the title is “ TWO SHORES” and you can hear some mp3’s on myspace page . If you want or have time go there and take a pick and let me knew how do you like it or don’t. My myspace page is www.myspace.com/miskosvetlanamihailo.
Thank you for patient and once again sorry for my English .

Great stuff being played here. I listened to the clip before reading the article, and the first thought that came to mind was Holdsworth watch out. Don’t worry about your English, I couldn’t have said it any better. Theory is the basis of musical growth!!
Thank you for sharing with us.
