I spent most of my youth around music; literally from the age of five, I had a guitar somewhere nearby. I was let in to an 8th grade class early, from 7th grade, and shot quickly to the top of the class. It was a small school and most of the students took that class to get out of other ones, but I was the real deal. The teacher I had, was privy to my natural abilities, and coaxed all he could out of me, and taught me amazing things about music in the process.
After high school, I quickly immersed myself in all the local band scene happenings, for about 100 miles around me, I played with anyone and everyone I could find. This gave me a lot of different experiences, including some street smarts, all on the central coast of California.
I opened for Slayer in ‘92, and quickly found that the metal scene was not where I wanted to be; far too many drugs and addicts floating around for my taste. By the time I was 25 I had been in about 10 different bands. Some did alright, as far as the bar band scene goes, but most of them suffered from the inherent issues that bands have, lack of equipment, players not showing up, or too high to play. The new millennium rolled around, and I had pretty much decided bands were not my thing, I would fly solo, and if it was meant to be to have a group, they would have to come to me.
I buried myself in my computer and guitar, using every program I could find, collecting all the backing tracks from anywhere I could, and jamming till I slept on my keyboard on more than a few nights. The last few years from the high desert in California, I have been pursuing music through the medium of Internet, as well as studying the Luthier arts in great depths, and learning about the truths of the industry we buy our toys from. I write music, lyrics, and have done a lot of collaborative work online. I have had the opportunities to chat, and record with some of the finest guitarists on the Internet. It still amazes me how many are really out there, just sitting at home, jamming in chat rooms.
More recently, I have entered contests and taken third place in California for Blues at the Guitar Center King of the blues contest and also third place in California for hard rock on Ourstage Though third place means little for those contests, it is still a cool thing to experience.
I was totally overjoyed to find this site, and look forward to being a very active member.
