- Kids would rather play guitar video games than a real guitar, and when they pick up real guitar get discouraged that it isn’t like Guitar Hero, give up and go back to playing the video games.
- If you get beat by your non-guitar playing friend, you never will hear end of it.
- After you lose to your non-guitar playing friend, you secretly buy an x-box, and having that competitive instinct of a guitarist, secretly practice and practice until you know you can show your buddy up, reclaiming the guitar throne
- After spending so much time practicing Guitar Hero, your real guitar chops noticeably diminish, causing anger and frustration.
- This anger and frustration causes unwanted stress, thus affecting the ability to get in the zone while playing
- You give up guitar, to join your friends at Guitar Hero.
As you can see, Guitar Hero really can only make you worse of an actual guitar player. So avoid it at all costs. Feel free to splurge every once in a while with your friends, but please if you get beat, do not practice Guitar Hero by yourself.

This is Hilarious! True story. Last year an executive from silicon valley bought my CD on-line thru Abstractlogix. He enjoyed it and contacted me thru e-mail to play his son’s Bar Mitzvah. So, the catch is i would come to the ceremony and party then afterwards go back to the house and give his son a private performance and lesson. Cool no problem . His son has a spacious game room and i perform a few covers and give him a lesson as we’re wrapping up all his friends and relatives show up while i’m performing
Crossroads, the Clapton classic. Anyway, they all start singing along get jazzed and ask me what else do you know from Guitar Hero? Hmm. They quickly run to the Computer and forget i’m in the room. Hey guys i know some AC/DC , anyone?
You can’t make this stuff.

Ha! For real. Guitar hero nation. So many of my students brag about playing at expert level and hitting, say, 90% of the notes. Then they come to their lessons and play exactly 90% of the notes they’ve always been playing. Digression vs progression. I can say it’s good for getting kids to connect with certain more complex rhythmic patterns, but even that can’t hold a candle to actually practicing what they pay me to teach them!

GTR hero is a good thing (to a certain point)
Here’s why.
We all know Kid’s today already waste time playing video games. And yes, it’s still a game but
I believe gtr hero has exposed kids to guitar solos and songs they never would have heard on the radio.
I mean, when is the last time you heard a gtr solo in a top 40 song?? 10 -15 years ago??
When we were kids, you heard a Van Halen song and wanted to play gtr, Now gtr hero is what kids are hearing and while not every kid may pick up gtr, a few might and go on to play.
It’s happening in my town.
Kids are actually requesting lessons from me because they heard Cliffs of Dover on the last release and REALLY want to learn.
Be careful of what you judge.
The records and CDS that our parents thought were a waste of time were the same records that taught us
rock music.
Now with a game, this form of media although not the same as our records and Cds is the new way of preserving our beloved rock music that actually has guitar technique and exposing a new generation to it.
If you don’t agree than you’ll have to admit, kids playing gtr hero is better than kids blowing away people in a violent video game.

Very true Brev!
6 This whole site is a scam. // Mar 22, 2008 at 11:19 pm
It is. All of these links use a click-through referral scheme, all tied to one company. The username used for referrals is ‘mrboodaddy’ - you can see it if you hold your mouse over the link, but not after you click.
Every time you click, the owner of this site makes money. Almost all of the posts on the forum are by the site owner under different usernames. The articles here are copied from other sites or hastily thrown together. There is NO substantial original content whatsoever; this guy is out to make a quick buck.
Realise that this whole was done by a single template, a few pictures and some copied text. DO NOT pay into this pathetic scheme. Expect these comments to be moderated also - most of them are by ‘mrboodaddy’ anyway.
On Guitar Hero - you can avoid all of these pitfalls unless you’re a Complete Moron who gives up guitar to be better than his friends at a video game. Guitar Hero actually STRENGTHENS your left hand finger muscles anyway - think about it, you’re using the same muscles you would with guitar. It’s great excercise and you know it’s a lot of fun to play.

I am really sorry to joke about Guitar Hero. For all of those sane people out there, please read this page about why whoever wrote this can be considered legally retarded in 28 states. If this site is a scam, then it’s the worst scam ever devised in the history of the world.

Ok I think I know what this guy was talking about. Some site that is scammish and put together full of unoriginal content trackbacked our post. The site is acttoguitar.com, and yes it is set up to automatically use other guitar posts and content for its thing. We are not affiliated to it in anyway. It is a pretty horrible site just trying to drive lots of traffic and get money from ad clicks. This is where this post was linked to.

1. Kids would rather play guitar video games than a real guitar, and when they pick up real guitar get discouraged that it isn’t like Guitar Hero, give up and go back to playing the video games.
If they give up, they will simply latch on to another hobby like we all do. Some hobbies aren’t for you. For instance I tried to draw when I was a kid and was terrible at it so I eventually took up guitar. If anything Guitar Hero, weeds out people who won’t be guitar players at all.
2. If you get beat by your non-guitar playing friend, you never will hear end of it.
Huh? This is normal kid behavior, nothing to make a big deal out of.
3. After you lose to your non-guitar playing friend, you secretly buy an x-box, and having that competitive instinct of a guitarist, secretly practice and practice until you know you can show your buddy up, reclaiming the guitar throne
And this is a bad thing??
4. After spending so much time practicing Guitar Hero, your real guitar chops noticeably diminish, causing anger and frustration.
Not true, you chops can be polished off and you’ll be back where you were in a day or two.
5. This anger and frustration causes unwanted stress, thus affecting the ability to get in the zone while playing
Huh? If things like this get you down, you shouldn’t be attempting to play guitar anyway.
6. You give up guitar, to join your friends at Guitar Hero.
Again, if playing real guitar is not your thing, pick up something else.
As you can see, Guitar Hero really can only make you worse of an actual guitar player. So avoid it at all costs. Feel free to splurge every once in a while with your friends, but please if you get beat, do not practice Guitar Hero by yourself.

Guitar Hero could have been a very valuable learning tool if it were done right to begin with. By `right`, I mean instead of having a rudimentary guitarish-shaped game controler, they should have simply used basic digital guitar tuner technology that could plug into the game, with a 1/4 inch input so kids could plug in their own REAL instrument and score by finding the right notes and chords. But that would be the intelligent solution, and probably not as proffitable unless marketed to a more professional market.

Wow, this is the biggest crock of crap I’ve ever heard. The number two reason, “you secretly go out and buy an xbox”…no you dont! That’s ridiculous. I’ve played guitar for several years and would put my skills up against just about anyone. I’ve also had guitar hero since it first came out and have bought every new one. I became amazing at that as well. Playing songs like Through the Fire and the Flames on Guitar Hero has actually made my finger reflexes faster on the real guitar. So quit trying to get kids to stop playing video games by writing stuff you have no idea about.
-Peace-
