Ulrich Ellison

Austrian born Ulrich Ellison grew up with the music of the eighties such as Mike Oldfield, Peter Gabriel or The Police, but his parents´ LP collection also featured Django Reinhard, Miles Davis and other jazz greats. At an early age he was drawn to the piano. However, from early beginnings on he was fascinated in creating his own sounds, much to the despair of his piano teachers.

The switch to guitar as his main instrument happened very naturally. In his mid-teens Ulrich discovered players like Jeff Beck, Scott Henderson, Chick Corea, Wheater Report, etc. After high school he moved to Vienna and studied at the Viennese Music University. “I had the chance to learn a lot about theory, counterpoint and compository concepts. The biggest opportunity, however, was to play with some of the most influential Austrian musicians like Andi Baum, Boris Bukowski, Drahdiwaberl, Hansi Lang, Löwenherz, ENA, and many more.

That´s what critics have to say about Ulrich and his compositions:

“The powerful sound of Ulrich Ellison´s guitar makes you want to follow his ways, as he lustfully moves around poetic ambient, heavy-hitting rock, tight funk grooves and exciting jazz rock fusion.

A restless searcher, Ulrich Ellison is an example of a new breed of musicians: raised in a global musical environment, highly versatile in many styles, he builds his own musical universe. His compositions are driven by a force for expressing strong tones and ideas. His debut CD “Tales From The Kingdom Electric” is an exciting and beautiful piece of music.”

You can definitely hear the Chick Corea influence in his music - Its seems like our formative years were pretty much the same as far as the music we listen to.

Dude Ulrich is the man! I go to school with him now at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a great guitar player of all styles along with a real master of tone. His guitars always sound great and his hand produce a very clear clean sound that is precise and to the point. Check out his album I’m sure he has it for sell on his myspace! Congrats Ulrich and I’ll see ya at the next gig!!!
