Featured Music Site of the Week: Kompoz

September 24th, 2008 · Posted by Jeff · 2 Comments

I recently just stumbled across an amazing site for guitar players and musicians alike. I haven’t personally been able to experience it yet, but the idea and concept behind it is truly exciting!

Kompoz: Online Music Collaboration

Kompoz: Online Music Collaboration

Kompoz.com is an online workspace for musicians and songwriters. Who needs to get together in your mother’s basement anymore? Now you can jam and collaborate with others in your boxers in your spare time!

You use Kompoz to compose new music with other artists around the world.

Got an idea for a song? Record a track. Upload it. Then invite others to add drums, bass, vocals or anything else!

Record a guitar solo and send it to your buddy in Argentina to add a harmony to it.

Suck at singing? Of course you do! Search for vocalists and get one to lay a nice vocal track down.

Kompoz.com makes it easy to collaborate with others. You start by creating a project workspace, then add one or more tracks. You can upload MP3, WMA, OGG, AIF, or WAV files to your project quickly and easily. As new files are added, the previous files are given a version number so that you can easily keep track of the history and progress of the work. Your project workspace will include a discussion forum where you can post your ideas for the song, lyrics, chord charts, and more. Others can post questions and replies.

Or, search for an existing project and lend a hand! You can search for projects by genre, by artist (other members), keywords and tags, and license type. Kompoz.com is a community site. Use our public discussion forums to learn more about mixing techniques, hardware and software, songwriting, and just about anything else.

I am interested to see how this site evolves. It is amazing these days how easy it is to collaborate and find musicians to jam with.

The music industry sure gets more and more open each day. It’s important for guitarists to take advantage of all these opportunities if they plan on being professional guitarists.

Even if you don’t have intentions of making guitar your career, it still is a fun way to meet other musicians!

If you like Kompoz you should also check out http://www.mixmatchmusic.com. Not only can you create and collaborate on new music in the online sequencer and engage your fans through social networking tools, but you can also profit from your art.

There is also a remix widget that artists can use to allow fans to remix their music, similar to what Radiohead is doing (again). You can set one up at: http://remixwizard.mixmatchmusic.com
