Today I read a great post by Marketing genius, Seth Godin, and it really hit home with me. With all the craziness in the economy going on, everyone seems to be making excuses for not doing this or not trying that.
When in reality, the most sagacious thing to be doing is to take your game up to the next level. A lot of people are scared of growth, and for these types of people, it is much safer and easier to make excuses for inaction than it is to take a risk towards success. Don’t be a pussy!
There isn’t a better time than now to get yourself out there and take some risks towards the goals you wish to accomplish.
Here is Seth’s original article:
Looking for a reason to hide
I’ve seen it before and I’m sure I’ll see it again.
Whenever a business cycle starts to falter, the media start wringing their hands. Then big businesses do, freelancers, entrepreneurs and soon everyone is keening.
People and organizations that have no real financial stress start to pull back, “because it’s prudent.” Now is not the time, they say. They cut budgets and put off investments. It’s almost as if everyone is just waiting for an excuse to do less.
In fact, they are.
Growth is frightening for a lot of people. It brings change and the opportunity for public failure. So if the astrological signs aren’t right or the water is too cold or we’ve got a twinge in our elbow, we find an excuse. We decide to do it later, or not at all.
What a shame. What a waste.
Inc. magazine reports that a huge percentage of companies in this year’s Inc. 500 were founded within months of 9/11. Talk about uncertain times.
But uncertain times, frozen liquidity, political change and poor astrological forecasts (not to mention chicken entrails) all lead to less competition, more available talent and a do-or-die attitude that causes real change to happen.
If I wasn’t already running my own business, today is the day I’d start one.

Pussies…
People i used to play with were such pussies i’ve left the band(the tousandth one i played in).
I was so fed up with people frightened by petty shit like don’t wanting to play such riff because it is too metal for them,or by others too lazy to drag their ass off their bed to at least phone me to tell they’re hungover and won’t come to the rehearsal, instead of making me wait…
Or worse, people who want to work on the same cover song during a year to end up telling me they’re not playing the gig!

Those with the money and power to change the whole world as we know it today are so consumed with human perversion and drunkeness that they would rather party all night, hide and sleep during the day. What are they really afraid of? My guess is themselves. If a person would lie to their self, they will surely lie to others. Sitting in a Mercedes Benz at a stoplight telling the homeless bum, buddy I’m broke myself! WOW the concept of greed is overwhelming isn’t it?

Sagacious?! You used the word “sagacious”!
Wouldn’t it be wiser and of better judgement to stick to more common vernacular in blogging, for the sake of communicating better with we plain folk?
Just kiddin’!

I was having that exact conversation today… in a networking group.. one member was talking about how she is going to downscale her operations to protect herself from the economy.
Every coin has two sides, every business that “chickens out” leaves a whole lot of opportunities for those who stick with it… think of it as a bush fire if you will - necessary for new growth…
