But no one is in the forest to hear him, does he make a sound?
If You plan on recording a CD, but there is no one that knows where or when to buy it, does that CD even exist?
If a tree falls on your head in the forest, but there is no one around to see it, are you really dead?
Hmmm….What other really dumb sayings can I think of…..
Well the point of this brief article is that you need to promote your music, and to show you a simple, tried and true formula to use when planning on releasing a cd, dvd, new product, etc.
The idea is courtesy of Bob Baker and his Music Promotion Blog.
The simple plan used to build up buzz and anticipation is this:
- Tease
- Preview
- Launch
Basically, you shouldn’t start promoting your music after you already have it up on iTunes. Your promotion should start weeks, months, years in advance to build up hype and buzz.
**Note– Please do not try to spread out the buzz and hype this long.
Start a blog. Post regular bulletins on myspace and facebook. Add videos of your band in the studio to YouTube and promote those. Send out timed emails to your list loaded with goodies and information. You can really get pretty creative with how you tease your audience.
When you have a finalized product, let a few people preview it. Get some good reviews and feedback going. Again, get creative and think of some zany and fun ways to get people talking.
Then Launch that baby!

Nice thoughts.but when it comes to being a solo 8-string guitarist and singer using footstomp sequencers and samplers…(home-made with the edited shuffle of my soundcard using SoundForge!)
It is way harder!people love bands, not individuals!think what you want,i experienced it and know what it is!
As for the buzz,i’m glad you confirmed my strategy was good.it came to me naturally and i didn’t beg for advice anywhere.
It’s fantastic being clever, but if it makes you soul-less it’s a real pain in the ass.
