The other night the show Classic Albums came on the VH1 Classic channel and was featuring U2′s the Joshua Tree.
This show is amazing and we would recommend any guitar player or musician watch it any time it comes on. One of the benefits you will get from viewing is that you will always pick up some new info to use about recording, playing, and arranging that can help take your own productions to the next level.
I really loved how they broke down the Edge’s guitar parts, what effects they used, and how he played them. The Edge is probably one of the most underrated guitarists out there, when in fact his style and sound is immediately recognizable and his own. Something we really try to push here in our online guitar magazine.
The way he arranged his guitar parts helped define U2′s larger than life sound, and damn, his tone is to die for! The Edge is truly a musical genius the way he puts different soundscapes together.
I would definitely recommend reading this great article over at Guitar Player Magazine, 10 Things You Gotta Do to Play Like the Edge by Vincent DeMasi
In the meantime enjoy this clip of Behind the Song: Where the Streets Have No Name from the show and hope you learn something. It is protected from being embedded, which is pretty dumb on Universal Music’s part but go here to check it out anyways:

What’s your favorite guitar part from the Edge? It might be cliche, but I really love Where the Streets Have No Name and With or Without You.
