If you haven’t listened to the new Derek Trucks Band album, I would suggest you go out and buy it right now. It is great! And man can Derek play. Talk about a melodic style. The way he borrows inflections and nuances from other instrumentation and singing is just pure awesome. He never seems to over exert himself for the sake of showing off his chops, which is a rarity amongst guitar players. His main focus is the music; the song. The guitar is purely his method for communicating the music that flows within him.
Check out this great quote that is on the CD liner:
“Music is like a river or stream that has come down to us through time, bringing nurture to man’s soul. From the past masters, this music flowed to my father and through him to me. I want to keep this stream flowing. I don’t want it to die. It must spread all over the world.”
-Ali Akbar Khan

Isn’t it crazy to think about how much music has evolved? It really blows my mind to think of what we have now compared to what must have been a couple of dudes banging around with rocks and sticks while chanting.
How will you share your stream of music? In what ways do you think your music will evolve?
