This is more of an open question, in which we are interested in learning more about based on your own experiences.

Where is the best place to live for a guitar player?

Maybe we can break it down into more specific questions as well:

  • Best place to be a Studio Guitarist?
  • Best place to  have a career playing your own original music?
  • Best place to set up a guitar lesson studio/ give guitar lessons?
  • Best place to meet other musicians/producers?

So where do you live?  What’s good about it?  What’s bad about it?

Leave you answers, opinions and facts in the comments please and help everyone out!

I live in the country where I find more students than you would probably think. It’s peaceful and private and I have a home studio here. I also live a short distance from a small city where I teach in a music store studio. The combination of the two work very well for me.

I live in the the southeastern part of Wisconsin, right along the North Shore. I find it’s a great place to live for guitar players looking to really absorbed all that is part of the industrial town’s culture. It breathes a lot of classic rock, blues, and to some extent, jazz. In recent years, the town has made a push to highlight artists within the area and so there are a lot of creative midwestern folk from all walks of life locating to Kenosha to work on their art.

The problem I see, is the number of people that are visiting Kenosha appears to be diminishing more and more each year and so the new ideas that are floating into Kenosha are few and far between. For a guitar player who is looking to do more than classic rock and blues and punk, this is not the place to be living. It’s not impossible, but it is a struggle to find places to play if you do not belong to one of these genres due to the lack of facilities and ulitumately, the attitude of your listening population.

As I as always question authority, keep myself far from trends,I can say, so far:
I live in France, which is full of guitarists, but the most of them can’t make a living out of teaching. There’s a perennial conundrum we all know, and I’ve felt it here more than anywhere else:academics vs “feel” is a ferocious struggle.Jeff Berlin could wipe it off…unfortunately it has been so since the 19th century!
I’ve been to Scandinavia and love it all!Sweden is full of recording studios,Norway full of luthiers…try it!
