STAFFNOTES: Free Printable Tab and Staff Paper - Customizable for Your Unique Style and Needs

July 23rd, 2009 · Posted by staffnotes · Leave Comments

My name is Dan Comerchero, I drum, produce, and also design staff paper. I am writing because I want to learn about tab/staff paper design layouts that guitarists such as yourselves would find useful if you could have it laid out any way, whether for use as a musician, a teacher or a student. Please leave a comment with any suggestions or ideas that come to mind!

About 2 years ago, I was in a music theory class @ McNally Smith College of Music. I will admit I’ve always had severe dis-organizational issues. This class required multiple sheets of paper; one sheet for musical examples, and one sheet for regular class notes. I was screwed….

From that experience, I created a first edition of which has now evolved to be customizable @ www.staffnotes.net. It is a 2 column layout, with half staff paper and half ruled lines. For the website, I created another edition which includes tab for guitar which I call FRETNOTES.

As I witnessed musicians and teachers using STAFFNOTES & FRETNOTES, I realized many new uses for a 2 column layout of staff paper.

Uses include:

- a tool for school, or a tool for teaching.

- for your Lyrics

- for chart writing

- as a Practice Log

What Do You Want in Your Staff Paper?

Now I need your help to expand my tab and staff paper designs and layouts!

I consider the application on my website to be a beta version, and I want it to grow.

I’ve been stirring around ideas for a new version of the application that lets your customize your layout even further to suit your needs.

It will have 2 columns, with the left side as it is now (ruled lines). But the right column will be customizable with different items that you can drop into place onto your layout from a “toolbox” on the side. The “toolbox” will include items such as Fretboards, Chord boxes, TAB lines, and Staff lines, Ruled Lines, and anything else that you can let me know of that you would find useful.

So check it out and let me know what you think!  All feedback good or bad is welcome!

Thanks!
