Catherine,
I was browsing the internet for inspiring articles on songwriting and came across yours. Forgive my ignorance, but I don't believe I've ever heard any of your songs or at least was not aware of it, so I'm not familiar with any of your work. I mention this only to say I have no bias of being a fan or critic. But I wanted to send a brief email thanking you for your personal insight above. Without going into details of what I received from your words, please just let the full meaning of my Thank You inspire you to continue writing future articles.

Wow!
Thought-provoking article...
I record myself everyday, regardless of practicing nuts technical exercises or just having fun...
Think less,feel more,that's how i do.
But when back to listening(i sing, too)my recordings with a rational ear,i hate my playing and ideas, though i even laughed out of joy when playing...
Coming to terms with my very own musical personality and ideas is quite hard...
I got tons of riffs, licks, bridges and hooks, but if i don't love them, will someone love them and maybe"unlock" me?

"Do you think what we're doing is wrong?"
"Of course it's wrong! It's illegal!"
"I've never done anything illegal before."
"I thought you said you were an accountant!"

Catherine, thanks for the reminder to create with the right side of the brain. Yes, knowing all the chords, scales, and runs is great, but if you don't know how to put it together to evoke an emotional response, it will just sound like a bunch of exercises stuffed together. Risk taking is crucial in music! Thanks for the words of advice

A unique an inspiring article Catherine.
One listen to your music reveals the inner song
as a companion to the guitar chops. We musicians should come away from this one better equipped to harness that creativity.

If you are a master guitar player, but your song sucks ass, well then there won't be too many people listening to ya. Songwriting is crucial!
