Music is the food for the soul, and being able to play good music is like being on the top of the world. If you are interested in learning guitar or are already taking guitar lessons and are ready to buy a guitar for yourself, its time to gather information about how to choose your first guitar. Getting a good quality guitar for beginners is not an easy job as at this stage you don’t know much about the instrument. You’ll have to depend upon the advice of others and your own music instinct.

Let’s have a step by step look at how to choose your first guitar:
First step is ensuring that you get a guitar made from decent quality wood as the sounds your instrument is going to make is dependent on the type of wood it’s made of. Mahogany, Maple and Alder wood are good choices for getting a nice tone. You may go for Ash or Korina, but they are hard to come by. Most guitar necks are made of rock or Canadian maple. All the wooden portion of the guitar is polished or painted, so it’s hard to tell what wood is used on it. Hence, it’s always best to go in for well known brands like Ibanez SA series, Yamaha, Washburn Chicago series, etc. Or if you going for a lesser known brand, then take a guitar with a natural finish, so that you have an idea of the wood used on it.
The second important step in how to choose your first guitar is to choose quality pickups. Pickups are the mode which convert the sound of the guitar into electrical signals so that the amplifier can be used. In most of the not so expensive guitars, pickups are standard company manufactured. Some companies put branded pickups, which are not a necessity as the real sound comes from the wood, pickups simply interpret it.
Geared with basic information of how to choose your first guitar, it’s not an uphill task to choose the right instrument for yourself. Just look for good wood and quality construction. Don’t go in for guitars by just the label of beginner’s guitar, it may be an excuse for bad quality construction. On the other hand, it’s not necessary to go in for very expensive ones either. The cheaper guitars can produce great sound if made from good quality wood and are properly synchronized. Just remember, not only is it important to know how to choose your first guitar, but it’s vital also to know how to make good music from your first guitar so get started! Make a rocking tune with your new guitar!!
